The Califia® ECMO Simulator system plays an important role in the education of surgeons and perfusionists in South Africa (now and in the future) – About 80 attendees from all over the world, including the EACTS organizing team, participated in Califia Perfusion CPB simulations over a two day period during the Hannes Meyer Registrar Symposium 2018 in Bloemfontein / South Africa. The simulations used both the “Beating Heart” module and a pig heart. Interesting cases were prepared by the team from the Free State university in Bloemfontein. Feedback from the attendees was very positive with everyone stating that the simulations (scenarios) were very realistic.
